IHC hosts eleven new permanent contracts

As part of the IHC’s efforts to consolidate scientific careers, eleven new permanent contracts were signed.
In mid-2025, Arturo Zoffmann Rodriguez, winner of an ERC Starting Grant, was hired by FCSH as an Assistant Researcher. As part of the STEXEU project, Arturo put together a research team that will study the impact of states of exception on European democracies and their possible influence on the emergence of authoritarian regimes. At the University of Évora, Sara Albuquerque was also hired as an Assistant Researcher in the area of ‘History of Science, Technology, Scientific Heritage, and the Environment (19th and 20th Centuries)’.
As part of the FCT Tenure funding, at the end of 2025, the eight positions allocated to the IHC were filled: Victor Pereira was hired as an Assistant Researcher in the area of ‘Migrations and Globalisation in Historical Perspective’; Aurora Almada e Santos was hired as an Assistant Researcher in the area of ‘Colonialism, Anti-Colonialism, Decolonisation’; Marta Macedo was hired as an Assistant Researcher in the area of ‘History in the Age of the Anthropocene’; Rui Lopes was hired as an Assistant Researcher in the area of ‘Cultural Mediations: Historical Research and Archives’; Ricardo Noronha was hired as an Assistant Researcher in the area of ‘Social Movements, State and Capitalism in Contemporary History’; Bárbara Direito was hired as an Assistant Researcher in the area of ‘Empire and Global History: Science, Technology and Labour’; Rita Luís was hired as an Assistant Professor for the Department of History, specialising in the area of ‘History of Fascisms, Anti-Fascism and Authoritarianism’; and Joana Dias Pereira was also hired as an Assistant Professor for the Department of History, specialising in the area of ‘History of the Long Nineteenth Century (Society, Politics, Economy)’.
In 2026, the open competition for an Assistant Researcher at IN2PAST, who would be integrated into the IHC, was completed. The researcher selected to conduct historical research on the contemporary period was Gaia Giuliani.
