Anita Buhin travelled to Rimini, where she is now a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Advanced Studies of Tourism (CAST) at the University of Bologna.
For two months, the IHC researcher will be conducting archival, bibliographic, and field research for her project ‘Performing Mediterranean Masculinities: Sex, Tourism and Gender in Yugoslavia, Italy and Portugal (1960s–1980s).’ She tells us that, in collaboration with Patrizia Battilani (CAST), she will “work at the State Archive and the Gambalunga Library, explore local leisure and tourism spaces relevant” to her research, and collaborate with other CAST academics. In addition, she will also have the opportunity to travel to Rome to “consult popular and specialist magazines held at the National Library to examine representations of masculinity, sexuality and tourism in postwar Italy.”
Funded by the FCT Mobility program, the research stay “will also provide opportunities for academic exchange, networking, and presentation of work in progress within the Italian scientific community,” adds Anita Buhin.
