The new members of the IHC’s Governing Bodies and the Coordinators of its Research Groups were elected yesterday at the General Assembly. Rui Lopes, a Research Assistant at FCSH, was elected President of the Board, having served on the previous board as Vice-President. The remaining members of the Board of Directors are new, representing a wide variety of backgrounds, geographical origins and generations. Aurora Almada e Santos and Giulia Strippoli will take on the role of Vice-Presidents; both are Assistant Researchers at FCSH. Maria de Lurdes Rosa (Assistant Professor at FCSH), Sara Albuquerque (Assistant Researcher at the University of Évora) and Carmina Yu Untalan (Junior Researcher at FCSH) complete the team.

Pedro Aires Oliveira (Associate Professor at FCSH) was elected Chair of the Board of the General Assembly, with Paulo Jorge Fernandes (Assistant Professor at FCSH) as Vice-Chair and Joana Paulino (Junior Researcher at FCSH) as Secretary. The Supervisory Board has also been renewed; it is now chaired by Bárbara Direito (Assistant Researcher at FCSH) and includes Ricardo Noronha (Assistant Researcher at FCSH), who continues from the previous term, and Marta Macedo (Assistant Researcher at FCSH).

With regard to the coordination of the IHC’s four Research Groups (RGs), Arturo Zoffmann Rodriguez was re-elected as coordinator of the RG in Political History; Anita Buhin and Joana Dias Pereira were elected co-coordinators of the RG in Economy and Society; Mélanie Toulhoat and Gaia Giuliani were elected co-coordinators of the RG in Culture; and Quintino Lopes was re-elected as co-coordinator of the RG on the History of Science, Technology and Environment, now alongside Miguel Carmo.

All terms of office will last for three years, which will be marked by the implementation of the IHC’s Strategic Project outlined for 2025–2029, the revitalisation of the new research spaces at the FCSH’s Almada Negreiros College, and the challenges anticipated as a result of the reconfiguration of national science policies.
