In partnership with the Monument to the Discoveries / Lisboa Cultura, the IHC has launched the call for entries for the fifth edition of the Amílcar Cabral Prize, which aims to “to honour an article of historical research that deals with any topic or issue relating to the history of anti-colonial resistance and colonial empires”.
People of any nationality who have obtained a PhD in the last three years are eligible to apply for this prize, which entitles the winner to a research stay in Lisbon in 2027. Previous winners of the prize include Ricardo Pérez Haristoy (a Chilean historian), Sakiru Adebayo (a Nigerian specialist in African literature) and Pedro Cerdeira (a Portuguese historian based in Switzerland).
For this edition of the prize, the jury will consist of Manuela Ribeiro Sanches (Institute of Contemporary History), Abel Djassi Amado (Simmons University) and Pedro Cardim (CHAM – NOVA FCSH). Applications for the fifth edition are open until 30 September and the prize rules can be found here.
