IHC opens exhibition at the Assembly of the Republic
Feb 3, 2023 | News
After opening at the Cultural Centre of Belém, and visits to Loulé and Vila Nova de Famalicão, the exhibition “Portuguese Forced Labourers in the III Reich” arrives, enriched, at the Portuguese Parliament, where it will be open until 24 February.
The inauguration took place at the end of 2 February, on the noble floor of São Bento Palace, presided by Augusto Santos Silva, President of the Assembly of the Republic, with the participation of historians Cláudia Ninhos and Fernando Rosas, coordinator of the research project.
Originally created by the IHC for the Cultural Centre of Belém in 2017, it portrays the history of the Portuguese subjected to forced and slave labour during the Nazi regime and it has been enriched with new information, gathered in subsequent years, namely with research work and the collection of new objects focused on the municipalities of Loulé and Vila Nova de Famalicão. Later this year, in November, it is planned to travel again, to Vila Franca de Xira, where it will be exhibited at the Museum of Neo-Realism.
As last year, also in 2023, in a joint initiative of the IHC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Portuguese delegation will travel to Mauthausen, this time with the participation of students from a school of the municipality of Sintra.
