Isabel Baltazar, researcher at the IHC and lecturer at the Instituto Superior de Educação e Ciências (ISEC), and Luís Caetano were appointed coordinators of the new UNESCO UNITWIN Chair “City that Educates and Transforms“, recently approved by the United Nations organization and based at ISEC.
Its objectives are “the promotion of an integrated system of research, training, and documentation activities in the field of Educating Cities”, “research and reflection on practices based on governance models inspired by the Educating Cities concept and their responses to the emerging problems of societies”, “the creation of a knowledge network that allows local governments to offer a diversified offer of equitable and fair responses to the problems of contemporary society”, and “cooperation and collaboration in the construction of knowledge societies through different educating city strategies.”
The Chair is made up of twelve educational institutions – one national, one Guinean and ten Brazilian – and was formally launched on 28 February at Lisbon City Hall.
