This week, in Budapest, the signing ceremony for the Erasmus Mundus Plus ‘History in the Public Sphere‘ consortium agreement took place, in which IHC was a proponent and participant.
The program focuses on the ways the past is represented, contested, and negotiated in the public sphere, exploring various contexts from the early modern period to the present. It resulted from a consortium between Central European University (CEU), Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, University of Florence, and has the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (Paris) as a partner.
The consortium’s approval was announced last July and, since then, the various partners have worked on building the syllabus, preparing the accreditation processes and designing a website. Soon, the student recruitment phase will begin.
The participation of IHC professors and researchers in this program has allowed to raise the international profile of the institute, stimulating also the interdisciplinarity and opening up perspectives for academic and institutional networking. In addition, the close collaboration with CEU, which since 2017 has been under pressure to curtail their academic freedom, also reinforces the mission of IHC, FCSH and NOVA as institutions with a global and civic vision.
