João Romero Chagas Aleixo receives Honorable Mention

Researcher João Romero Chagas Aleixo was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2019 edition of the Prize «Historical Essay of the Union of the Parishes of Faro» for the work “Faro na vida e na obra do poeta António Aleixo (1899 – 1949)” [Faro in the life and work of the poet António Aleixo (1899 – 1949)].
João Romero Chagas Aleixo holds an MSc in Contemporary History (NOVA FCSH) and is interested in the local and regional history of the Algarve. He is a doctoral student at the Institute of Contemporary History, where he develops a thesis on the migration of Andalusians to the Algarve in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Prize was instituted in 2019 by the Union of Parishes of Faro and aims to reward historical essays dedicated “to any period in the history of the city of Faro and its cultural heritage”. The Prize was awarded to Marco Sousa Santos for the work “Contributos para um Dicionário dos Pedreiros e Canteiros com atividade em Faro no século XVIII” [Contributions to a Dictionary of Stonemasons with activity in Faro in the 18th century].
