Irene Flunser Pimentel won the Lusitania – History Prize from the Portuguese Academy of History for her book ‘Do 25 de Abril de 1974 ao 25 de Novembro de 1975 – Episódios menos conhecidos’ [From 25 April 1974 to 25 November 1975 – Lesser-known episodes].
Published by Temas e Debates, the book presents ‘a personal analysis of episodes that took place between the final years of the dictatorship and 25 November 1975, with an emphasis on what happened to the former political police and the actions of the USA, France, and Germany during this period in relation to Portugal.’
In 2021, the IHC historian was also awarded the History of History of Europe Prize – Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, for her book Holocausto (Temas e Debates, 2020). The purpose of the Lusitania – History Prize is to ‘award a work of recognised merit from any period of Portuguese history’.
The various prizes of the Portuguese Academy of History will be awarded on 4 December at 3pm at the Quinta dos Lilazes Palace, the Academy’s headquarters in Lisbon.
