Cristina Gouveia

MSc /MA, PhD Candidates

Biography

Graduate in History from the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, Master’s degree in Museology and Heritage, and PhD candidate in Contemporary History at the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities. Technician at the National Library of Portugal since 2022; responsible for its publications, she has coordinated the Cultural Activities and Public Relations Service since March 2024. At the Amadora City Council, she was a member of the AmadoraBD International Comic Book Festival Committee between 1998 and 2014 and coordinated the National Comic Book and Image Centre (CNBDI) between 2000 and 2015.

She researches topics related to comic books, censorship during the Estado Novo regime, publishing and the printing industry, oral history, and heritage. She is preparing a PhD thesis on children’s and youth publications that published comic strips in Portugal between 1936 and 1962.
