It is with great sadness that the IHC announces the death of António Pedro Vicente, Emeritus Researcher at the Institute.
António Pedro Vicente received his doctorate in History from the University of Paris/Nanterre. He was a Full Professor at the NOVA University of Lisbon, an Academician of Number of the Portuguese Academy of History and a corresponding member of several international academies, including the Royal Academy of History of Spain. He was the author of numerous publications on 19th century Portuguese history and its relations with Spain, France and England, as well as studies on the history of the First Republic. He has published Espanha e Portugal. Um olhar sobre as relações no século XX [Spain and Portugal. A look at relations in the 20th century] (Tribuna da História, 2004), Guerra Peninsular 1801-1814 [Peninsular War 1801-1814] (Quidnovi, 2007), and Anunciando as Invasões Francesas [Announcing the French Invasions] (Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda, 2013). António Pedro Vicente was also interested in the History of Photography, making a name for himself as a collector of old cameras, gathering rare specimens that served as the basis for the Museum Centre of the Portuguese Centre of Photography, which was named after him.
The wake will take place today, 16 December, from 6pm, at the Church of São João de Deus (Praça de Londres, Lisbon). On Tuesday 17th, there will be a mass at 2pm in the same church.
