History in the Public Sphere Program
The History in the Public Sphere Program (HPSP) of the Institute of Contemporary History preserves the IHC’s long-standing tradition of participating in public debates about the past in Portuguese society. In addition, its mission is to articulate and give visibility to the science communication activities of the IHC’s researchers, investing in the promotion of scientific dissemination outside academia, in conjunction with public institutions and civil society, promoting the diversification of funding and networking with a view to advancing knowledge in the IHC’s fields of research.
Highlights include the participation of IHC researchers in sessions organised at schools in the Lisbon region (and elsewhere in the country); the IHC’s permanent collaboration in the programming of various cultural facilities; the provision of historical research and heritage safeguarding services; the development of collaborative research projects; the promotion of the Erasmus+ History in the Public Sphere Master’s Degree; and free courses.
Within the framework of the program, we formalised a collaboration with the International Federation for Public History, with a membership of its advisory committee and the scientific committee of the World Conference of the International Federation for Public History.
