The IHC and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos / EGEAC have opened the competition for the third edition of the Amílcar Cabral Prize, which is intended “honour an article of historical research that deals with any topic or issue relating to the history of anti-colonial resistance and colonial empires”.
People of any nationality who have received their doctorate in the last three years can apply for the prize, and will be eligible for a research stay in Lisbon. In the third edition of this prize, the jury will be made up of Manuela Ribeiro Sanches (Institute of Contemporary History), Elísio Macamo (Philosophisch-Historische Fakultät, Universität Basel) and Cristina Roldão (Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology — Iscte-IUL).
In previous years, African literature specialist Sakiru Adebayo (second edition) and historian Esmat Elhalaby (first edition) were award winners. Applications for the third edition are open until 26 May and the Prize’s rules can be consulted here.
