Screening of “The Battle of Algiers“
The Battle of Algiers (Gilo Pontecorvo, 1966) it possibly the most important film about modern decolonisations. Released four years after Algeria’s independence, its exhibition was boycotted in France, and its director was targeted with death threats. Various situations portrayed in the film – from the involvement of Algerian women in the anti-colonial struggle to the use of torture by the French army – helped to give the film a unique status in the annals of political intervention.
Aprox. duration: 2h10m.
