Course of the NOVA FCSH Summer School that will tackle prevalent issues of today’s society through a very popular practice: gaming.

Aims:
Games, Society & Culture is a 15-hour intensive course, addressed to undergraduates, graduate students and the general public alike. It is theory-light and debate-oriented, tackling prevalent issues of today’s society through a very popular practice: gaming. The course offers an iteration through the history of games from Ancient times to Modernity, and an exploration of contemporary themes through the lenses of gaming. Games are taken in a broad sense from board-games and traditional games to card games, roleplay and even video-games. The themes addressed throughout the course include nationalism, colonialism, gender, religion and neo-liberalism.
