David Pereira (IHC researcher) and Álvaro Garrido (professor at the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra), received the António Dornelas Award, on 17 January, for their book “A Economia Social em Movimento” [The Social Economy in Movement].
The book, published by Tinta da China in 2018, analyses Social Economy organisations in Portugal, the terrain where they operate, their institutional and legal relations, as well as political tensions and social movements.
The award was created in 2017, within the scope of the centenary celebrations of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and is awarded by the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity, and Social Security, distinguishing works dedicated to topics of social policy, poverty relief, and social exclusion. In the 2018 edition, Cristina Rodrigues and José Maria Brandão de Brito received an Honourable Mention.
The award was also given to the works “Envelhecer em instituição” [Growing old in an institution], by Ana Paula Gil; “Ação organizacional e qualidade de vida” [Organizational action and quality of life], by Luisa Alexandra Oliveira Martins Fernandes; and “Determinantes da contratação a termo e reformas no mercado laboral português” [Determinants of fixed-term contracts and pensions in the Portuguese labour market], by Miguel Capelo Gomes de Sá Araújo, João Cerejeira, and Miguel Portela.
