Carlos Batista

Biography

He is studying for a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science, specialising in Museology (University of Évora), and has a degree in Archaeology from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. He was museography assistant between 2001 and 2007 at the Natural History Museum of the University of Porto in the Mendes Corrêa Anthropology and Archaeology section, and in 2018 he joined the technical team at the Santos Rocha Municipal Museum where he worked as a museography technician and archaeologist. He has been involved in archaeological work since 1999 (Porto, Murça, Dublin, County Meath, and Figueira da Foz). In addition to his technical work in archaeology and museography, he is also studying 19th century photographic techniques. He took part in the research project ‘EcoMusic – Práticas sustentáveis: um estudo sobre o pós-folclorismo em Portugal no século XXI’ [EcoMusic – Sustainable practices: a study of post-folklorism in Portugal in the 21st century] (PTDC/ART-FOL/31782/2017) and is currently participating as an invited researcher in the project ‘TRANSMAT — Transnational Materialities (1850-1930): Reconstituting collections and connecting histories’, also funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (PTDC/FER-HFC/2793/2020).
