Víctor Barros and Pedro Cardim are the coordinators of the micro-credential programme ‘Crioulidades e o Atlântico’ (Creole Cultures and the Atlantic), launched by FCSH and for which applications are open until 16 February.
The programme ‘was designed to respond to contemporary challenges associated with identities, sociolinguistic and cultural diversity, and social inclusion in post-colonial Atlantic contexts,’ providing ‘advanced interdisciplinary training for professionals and those interested in working in areas of high social impact—such as education, the arts, culture, heritage, tourism and policies of difference – encouraging intercultural dialogue, inclusion and social cohesion.’
In addition to co-coordinating the programme, Víctor Barros is also the lecturer for the course ‘Theoretical Approaches to Creolity’, where he will address the concept of creolity from a historical, theoretical, and comparative perspective. Another IHC lecturer will be Rui Cidra, responsible for the course ‘Music and Creolities,’ which offers a multidisciplinary approach—combining anthropology, history, and ethnomusicology—to the relationships between creolisation, creolity, and musical practices in the Atlantic space.
Comprising 12 courses (or micro-credentials) worth 3 ECTS credits, the programme allows students to attend courses independently or in combination (to obtain a postgraduate degree). The programme provides for the award of incentive scholarships in the 2025/2026 academic year, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan under the FOSTEAM@SOUTH project. Applications for these scholarships will be accepted between 23 February and 6 March.
