Aurora Almada e Santos has been selected by the jury of the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) to be a Visiting Professor at Brown University. The IHC historian will be part of the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at the university located in Rhode Island, USA, where she will teach the course “International Solidarity and Portuguese Decolonization” in the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.

The aim of the course proposed by Aurora Almada e Santos is to provide students with an overview of international solidarity with the struggle for independence and liberation movements in the Portuguese colonies, including that arising from state, non-state, and individual actors.

In 2021, Nuno Medeiros, who at the time was an IHC researcher, had already won this same competition, something that the IHC is proud of, saluting the quality of the work of its researchers, which is being internationally recognised.

The jury for the competition was chaired by Elsa Henriques, director of FLAD, and included António Costa Pinto (Institute of Social Sciences — University of Lisbon), Onésimo Teotónio Almeida (Brown University) and Cristiana Bastos (Institute of Social Sciences — University of Lisbon).
