IN2PAST “premieres” at the Imaterial festival

Jun 22, 2021 | News

On 25 June, at the Imaterial festival, in Évora, there will be a “first glimpse of the activity and research” by IN2PAST, the Associate Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory of which the IHC is a part.

IN2PAST will have its headquarters at the University of Évora, but it brings together researchers from seven research units from four different universities: NOVA Lisbon, Coimbra and Minho — in addition to Évora. With specialists in chemistry, architecture, history, musical studies, art history and anthropology, IN2PAST crosses different fields of knowledge with the aim of studying and intervening in the areas of cultural heritage, museums, arts, and memory policies.

At Imaterial, IHC historians Maria de Fátima Nunes and José Neves will moderate a conversation between António Candeias (chemist, Laboratório HERCULES), Marta Prista (anthropologist, CRIA), Joana Cunha Leal (art historian, IHA), Jorge Correia (architect, Lab2PT), and Manuel Pedro Ferreira (musicologist, CESEM).

This “edition zero” of Imaterial runs until 26 June and aims to promote the intangible heritage of humanity enshrined by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), of which, since 2014, the Alentejo cante has been a part, as well as affirming culture as a strategic vehicle for the development of the city of Évora. Carlos Seixas is in charge of the curatorship; the production is from the Évora Municipality.
