Course of the NOVA FCSH Summer School about the main events and European fractures of the 1980s, their historical roots and socio-cultural features.
European History in the 1980s: Cultures, Politics and Society

Schedule: 22 July to 6 August | Tuesdays — from 16h00 to 19h00; Fridays — from 16h00 to 18h00;
Duration: 15h

Aims:
This Summer School will stimulate in students a critical awareness of the existence of multiple and contrasting ideal constructions and practical achievements of Europe and anti-Europe. It will help them to interpret the main events and continental fractures of the 1980s, identifying their historical roots and socio-cultural features with a comparative, interconnected and global approach, avoiding Eurocentric preconceptions. At the end of the course, it will also be possible to understand the changing position and role of Europe in the world and explain its plans both from the top of the political and administrative institutions and from the bottom of the movements and social transformations.
