Armando de Lacerda Wing: Laboratory of Experimental Phonetics of Coimbra

During the 8th International Workshop on the History of Speech Communication Research (IWHSCR), participants will have the opportunity to take part in a guided visit to the exhibition Armando de Lacerda Wing: Laboratory of Experimental Phonetics of Coimbra, located on the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra.

The exhibition explores the history of phonetics in Portugal, with a particular focus on the Laboratory of Experimental Phonetics of Coimbra and its director, Armando de Lacerda. It brings together scientific instruments, archival materials, and oral testimonies to preserve and showcase the Laboratory’s legacy, offering a critical perspective on a largely overlooked chapter in twentieth-century phonetics research.

This exhibition is the result of the PHONLAB project, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (2022.06811.PTDC), in collaboration with the Rectorate of the University of Coimbra, its Science Museum, and Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
