Célia Reis receives prize from the Navy Academy

The PhD Thesis of researcher Célia Reis, entitled “O Poder entre Lisboa e o Oriente – Persistências e Mudanças na Administração, do Ultimato ao Ato Colonial” [The Power between Lisbon and the East – Persistence and Changes in Administration, from the Ultimatum to the Colonial Act], received the prize “Fundação Oriente – Ambassador João de Deus Ramos”, awarded by the Academia de Marinha [Portuguese Navy Academy], of 2019.
In her doctoral dissertation, Célia Reis addressed “the administrative configurations in the colonies of the East, India, Macao, and Timor, between the Ultimatum and the Colonial Act”, i.e., between the late nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century.
The award aims to “encourage and stimulate scientific research in the History, Arts, Humanities and Sciences related to the Sea, and the Portuguese presence in East Asia”.
