On 18 January, the exhibition Double Void by Paulo Catrica and Sebastiano Raimondo opened at the Salut au Monde! gallery in Porto. The exhibition is partly the result of the work carried out in a multidisciplinary exploratory project funded by IN2PAST and coordinated by Paulo Catrica.

The project ‘Filling a double void. A critical and mnemonic reading of the new town of Santo André 1971-2021’ focused on the history and memory of Vila Nova de Santo André, a new town built in the 1970s to support the Sines industrial complex. The exhibition brings together the photographs of Catrica and Raimondo, who ‘through urban landscapes and fragmented memories, explore the potential of the “unfinished” and Walter Benjamin’s “revolutionary pessimism,” challenging prejudices and revealing the critical significance of this territory.’ It will be on show until 21 February.

On 25 January, at the NO·NO gallery in Lisbon, the two photographers will be joined by a third — Carlos Lobo — for the opening of the Re-Visions exhibition. According to Humberto Brito, the images on display ‘are organised around a thought about photography that disconcerts its traditional definitions. We are used to describing it as an art of vision. Each of these sets of images, however, exemplifies a reflection on photography as a practice of review.’ It will be on show until 24 March.
