Ana Cristina Martins at the International Academy of Portuguese Culture

Ana Cristina Martins has been appointed Corresponding Academician of the International Academy of Portuguese Culture. The inauguration will take place on 20 March at the Lisbon Geographical Society, where the IHC researcher will present the lecture “Arqueologia, colecções, memórias e emoções: dar futuro ao passado” [Archaeology, collections, memories, and emotions: giving the past a future].
The International Academy of Portuguese Culture was created in 1965 and is a cultural institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, with the aim of “fostering scientific endeavours to safeguard the Portuguese cultural heritage of communities scattered around the world”. It is currently directed by Maria Regina Mongiardim.
Ana Cristina Martins has a PhD in History from the School of Arts and humanities of the University of Lisbon and joined the Centre for the Study of the History and Philosophy of Science in 2011, which merged with the IHC in 2015. At the IHC, she is a member of the Research Group on the History of Science, Technology, and the Environment, and is Vice-President of the Board of the General Assembly. She is also President of the Archaeology Section of the Lisbon Geographical Society and Vice-President of the General Assembly of the Association of Portuguese Archaeologists. She devotes her research mainly to the history of archaeology and to science and gender studies.
