Summary:
The Institute of Contemporary History at the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities has opened an application period for seven research scholarships, designated as PhD Research Scholarships, in the field of Modern and Contemporary History, under the FCT’s Regulation of Research Fellowships and the Research Fellow Statute. The scholarships will be funded bu the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under the Collaboration Protocol for the Funding of the Research Scholarships for PhD Students Plan, signed by the FCT and the Institute of Contemporary History (UI 4209).
- The competition is open between 28 June and 5PM of 27 July (Lisbon time).
- To apply, you must have a Bachelors or Masters degree in History or similar fields of Humanities or Social Sciences.
- The project will be hosted partly by the Institute of Contemporary History, in Lisbon, and partly at a foreign institution — to be identified by the applicant. The project will be funded by a mixed scholarship, with a period abroad of 6 to 24 months. The scholarship contract is yearly to a maximum of four years (48 months).
- The research activities must be framed in one of these four PhD Programmes offered by NOVA FCSH: History, Globalisation Studies, Anthropology, and Languages and Modern Cultures.
- The research proposals may be focused on any problem or topic of History, but may also articulate history with other scientific fields. Specifically, they must be situated in Modern or Contemporary History, i.e, from the end of the eighteenth century and present day, or combine these periods with previous ones.
- Like the current IHC’s Strategic Plan, these scholarships will privilege transnational and/or comparative approaches.
- Proposals are not limited to Portugal or Portuguese speaking countries.
- Applications may be submitted in English or Portuguese. There is no restriction to Portuguese-speaking applicants, but the students will be incentivised to learn Portuguese during the scholarship.
- The student will have a main advisor within the IHC — to be chosen by the applicant. If the applicant needs help to chose an advisor within the IHC team of researchers, we will help them.

Detalhes do Evento
Conference dedicated to the work of the historian Fernando Rosas and, consequently, to the historiography of the Estado Novo and fascism in Portugal, seeking to assess its impact on historiography in recent decades.
Reler Fernando Rosas
