Summary:
In nineteenth-century Italian peninsula as well as in most Western societies, family, with its blurred boundaries and the mutual support it implied, was a key institution. What was women’s role in the family of the time? By examining some case studies, this talk will analyse the vision and role of women within nineteenth-century society and their legal status with a focus on the transmission of wealth.
