Teresa Lopes Moreira – In Memoriam
Apr 27, 2022 | News
The Institute of Contemporary History announces, with deep regret, the passing of Teresa Lopes Moreira, born on 23 September 1964, in Santarém.
With a degree in History, she became a Master in History of Discoveries and Portuguese Expansion at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, writing a dissertation entitled “A Etiópia na Obra de Miguel Castanhoso” [Ethiopia in the Work of Miguel Castanhoso] (2001). She received her PhD in Contemporary History from the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities, with a thesis entitled «‘Todos Têm Direito à Cultura’. A Dinâmica Cultural da Cidade de Santarém (1930-1959)» [‘Everyone has the right to culture’. The Cultural Dynamics of the City of Santarém (1930-1959)], which she defended in 2014, under the supervision of José Neves. Since then, she was a member of the Institute of Contemporary History.
Her academic work was intertwined with her life story, namely the city where she was born, lived, and worked. In her research, she carried out a survey of various aspects of the social life of the city, aiming to address, through the framework of Cultural History, the place of a medium-sized Portuguese city, an infrequent effort in the panorama of studies on the Portuguese 20th century.
She always had a smile and generous words to share.
