Heritage: History and theory. (Re)Uses of the past
General aim: the students will get some knowledge about cultural heritage (material and immaterial, movable and immovable), namely about historical contexts which produced the concept of ‘cultural heritage’ so they can evaluate more consciously the existing heritage categories and typologies, as well the theories of conservation and restoration, national and international legislation, and the links between heritage, collections, museums and sustainable territorial development.
Pedagogical aims: (specific), students should be able to understand the concept of ‘cultural heritage’, its categories and typologies, respective historical contexts, and national and regional specificities (ex.: Portugal and Évora); criticize the changes observed in this ambit according to the legislation and historical evolution; enlarge methodological competences.
