Portugal, a Retrospective
Sep 25, 2020 | News
In a partnership with the newspaper Público and the publishing house Tinta da China, the IHC has launched, in September, the online course Portugal, a Retrospective, with scientific coordination by historian Rui Tavares.
The course takes a backwards approach to history, from the present to the past, revisiting different years of Portugal’s history, from 2020 to 500 BC, touching on topics about its territory, people, always with a new perspective. In an interview about the course, Rui Tavares stressed that the course allows “a journey through time and a journey through the sources”, that “it surprises even those who already know Portugal’s history well” and that “it can be done from anywhere on the world wherever there is someone who has enough [knowledge of] Portuguese language ”.
The idea for the course started from the homonymous collection, published by Público and Tinta da China in 2019, and will therefore consist of 25 classes based on each of the collection’s volumes, to be taught by the respective authors, both national and international, including several IHC researchers.
The classes will be interactive, with a first part of the presentation made by the authors of the volume in question and a second part a debate with students. It will take place between 14 October 2020 and 7 April 2021, and registration has already opened on the course website.
