Fernando Rosas is awarded a Medal of Scientific Merit

Fernando Rosas, IHC's founder and Emeritus Professor at FCSH/NOVA, was awarded today with a Medal of Scientific Merit by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

The ceremony took place this morning during the meeting Ciência 2017, the great gathering of science and technology in Portugal, organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and Ciência Viva. Besides the historian, other national and foreign 16 personalities were also honoured because, according to Manuel Heitor, “they have distinguished themselves in an unique way and it is our duty, now that we are active, to recognise their memory”.

Fernando Rosas was honoured for its “decisive role in the development of Portugal’s scientific activity about 20th century History and the Estado Novo”. The organisers also highlighted his role as the founder of the IHC, the research centre he created in 1990, with other professors and researchers.

Amongst the awarded, was also Raquel Soeiro de Brito, geographer and also Emeritus Professor at the FCSH/NOVA.
